Nur noch ein paar Stunden, dann geht es ab in den Urlaub in die Niederlande. Und prompt wird hier das Wetter wieder schlechter. Ich hoffe, das bleibt nicht so in den nächsten 2 Wochen. Was mit beim Packen jedenfalls mal wieder aufgefallen ist, wieviel verschiedene externe Netzteile/Akkulader wir mit in den Urlaub schleppen. Da wären:

• Netzteil für den LapTop
• Netzteil für die Canon G3 Digicam
• Netzteil bzw. Akkulader für die Canon 350D DSLR
• Netzteil für den portablen 40Gb Plattenspeicher (Image Tank)
• Netzteil für das Handy
• Netzteil für den Zire 31
• Ladegerät für normale Akkus

Das sind schon mal 7 Geräte. Bestimmt habe ich noch irgendwas übersehen.Das sind wohl die Zeichen der Zeit.

Nach dem ich jetzt drei Tage in Nürnberg auf einem Oracle Administrationslehrgang war, kann ich mich jetzt mehr oder weniger offiziell als Oracle-Admin bezeichnen. Allerdings gibt es da so eine Menge zu wissen, das es mit den drei Tagen wohl nicht getan ist. Ich muss nach dem Urlaub sehen, das ich nochmal etwas Zeit abgezweigt kriege, um mich nochmal mit dem Thema intensiver zu beschäftigen.Vielleicht sollte ich mich ja mal mit der für SAP R/3 notwendigen Oracle-Installation beschäftigen.

I lost connectivity to my company through the Cisco VPN client for Linux as I wrote here. In the meantime, I was able to obtain the latest vpn-client version 4.6.03.190-k9. The Cisco ipsec module loads fine, but when vpnclient is invoked to establish the connection, I’m still getting the same error as I described here.

But then I noticed in a Gentoo RSS channel, that a new version of kvpnc was declared stable. I recompiled the Linux kernel to activate the TUN/TAP driver and rebooted. After emerging vpnc and kvpnc and some closer examination of the Cisco vpnclient profile files, it didn’ t took long until I was connected again. I actually don’t use kvpnc, since it segfaults, when I’m trying to connect. The underlying command line utility vpnc, however works very fine.

I find, that vpnc works even better than the Cisco vpnclient. With vpnclient the connection of gtk-imonc to my fli4l router freezes. With vpnc it continues to run and within Gkrellm a new mini window for the tun-device is created.

Eigentlich warte ich heute schon den ganzen Tag darauf, das der neue Harry Potter eintrudelt. Ich hatte schon gedacht, das die Post diesem ganzen Andrang vielleicht nicht Herr würde, aber ich finde gerade eine Email von Amazon in meinem Postkasten vor, das es ihnen ja furchtbar Leid täte, aber es war ihnen nicht möglich, den neuen Harry Potter wie versprochen, pünktlich zu liefern.Ich würde das Buch deshalb Anfang der Woche für umsonst erhalten.

Auch nicht schlecht, zumal mir total entfallen war, das Amazon ja ein Lieferversprechen eingegangen war.

I’ve got it since yesterdays and wow, that thing is fast. Press the button and zap, focused. I love it already. Of course the camera is bigger and heavier, in particular, when the 28-135 lens is attached.Usage is not so differently compared to the Canon G3, menus and so on. Once you have fiddled with it a bit you’ll feel at home pretty fast. Making the best use of all the provided features will take a bit of time I guess. I think the money will pay off in the end.

I couldn’t keep my old computing equipment in the basement forever. So I finally decided to put the stuff into the trash. The first item, which went, was my old Atari 512ST, but of course I couldn’t do that without some kind of remembrance. So I shot some photos and put them into this little gallery.

Over the years I had put quite some time and effort into this device. Replacing the 512Kb internal memory with a self build 4Mb extension, replacing the 8MHz 68000 processor with a 16MHz 68030 and connecting up to 3 floppy drives. In the end I also had a 80Mb and a 40Mb SCSI disc drive connected, but these are still in the basement waiting to be photographed and disposed of.
